Character Sketches – The Will and the Forest

For quite a while now my brother has been writing a fantasy book. After he had established most of his story and characters he asked me to be involved, and help him by creating illustrations to accompany the book. It has been a super fun project to work on, and my only regret is that I couldn’t make more time to work on it. On the bright side, the project is ongoing, so I will have many more opportunities to delve into this new world my brother has created, and help him bring it to life. The first episode of the book has been published and is available on Kindle. Check it out here.

There are many characters I have worked on, and I wanted to start sharing some of the work. Herbert, the main protagonist, has many friends and allies. Donaldson is a spindly, feisty little guy, and long time friend of Herbert. He is also an orphan of sorts, and he and Herbert share the bond of brothers.

Another good friend of Herbert’s is Mumphreys. Mums, as he is affectionately known by his friends, is the son of the town blacksmith. He is hard and tough for a boy his age, and Herbert and Donaldson often rely on him for protection (even if they don’t realize it). I personally like Mumphreys alot, and I am super excited to see where his adventures take him.

The last character I wanted to show is Je’Kante the pirate. I have already featured Kant in my blog, but wanted to show his character concept with this group because they came about and the same time, and his story is tightly intertwined with the others. Kant is a special person though, not native to the part of the world Herbert and his friends call home. Kant also possesses hidden and un-tapped powers, and uses his life of piracy to escape his terrible past.
